Here you will undergo a comprehensive preceptor-based and criteria-based orientation - working closely with our Nurse Managers and Clinical Educators - to ensure that you have the skills and competencies to deliver advanced care to every patient. We also offer extended internships to provide new graduates with in-depth introductions to a number of specialty areas, including:In addition, through the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, we offer a 20-week post-graduate Perioperative program to prepare you for the Operating Room environment. To facilitate their growth, our stepped Professional Ladder (Professional Nurse I, II, III) emphasizes performance and bases promotions on quality nursing practice, demonstrated competency, participation in hospital leadership functions, continuance of education, specialty certification, and the mentoring on new nursing staff.
Currently, there are four promotion cycles per year to which a nurse can apply. Each advancement in nursing level is accompanied by a 4% increase in pay. In addition, Bridgeport Hospital is committed to developing our nursing leadership team through this process. This commitment extends to a tuition reimbursement program for advanced degrees. All RNs at Bridgeport Hospital are eligible, and some BSN and MSN classes are held on-site at the Hospital in collaboration with area universities.
